Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education and Natural Resources

Background

The Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education and Natural Resources, or University Consortium (UC), was founded in 1989 among leading Southeast Asian higher education institutions in order to share academic expertise and resources and facilitate free exchange of information among its members. The consortium aims to provide excellent graduate education and cutting-edge research in agriculture, environment, and natural resources for the benefit of the SEA region.

Member Universities

Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB), Indonesia; Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Indonesia; Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia; Kasetsart University (KU), Thailand; University of the Philippines Los BaƱos (UPLB), Philippines; University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada; University of Queensland (UQ), Australia; Georg-August University of Goettingen (UG), Germany; and Tokyo University of Agriculture (TUA), Japan.

Activities

UC supports student and faculty exchanges among its consortium members to facilitate knowledge and resource exchange. In addition, the consortium plans to implement collaborative research projects in its priority areas of sustainable management of natural resource systems, food and agriculture policy, biotechnology in agriculture, food and health, information and communication technology, bioinformatics, and data management in agriculture.
