This is a compilation of different academic based networks working on sustainability issues. You can find an overview of the network, its member universities, and its relevant activities.
Global
- Alliance for Global Sustainability (AGS)
- AGS aims to provide a solid foundation for sustainable development through the application of world class research and education in science and technology and the social sciences.
- Global Land Project (GLP)
- The Global Land Project (GLP), with host office at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, is a research project focused on land systems.
- International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU)
- the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) is an alliance of ten of the world's leading research universities united in their vision and commitment to educating future leaders.
- International Association of Universities (IAU)
- the association advocates the principles of freedom and justice, of human dignity and solidarity, which it encourages its members to promote through teaching, research and services.
- International Council for Science (ICSU)
- The International Council for Science (ICSU) is an international organization that was founded in 1931 in order to promote international scientific activity in the different branches of science and its application for the benefit of humanity.
- Network for Global Sustainability
- The aim of the network is to accelerate research and higher education on sustainable development through the sharing of ideas and good practices.
Asia & Pacific
- American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)
- The American Association for the Advancement of Science is a global, non-profit organization that seeks to "advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people". Founded in 1848, AAAS has served as educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association to millions of individuals. As part of its advocacy to raise the understanding of science worldwide, AAAS publishes the journal "Science", as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports.
- Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU)
- The Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU) is a regional organization that was founded in January 1996. It brought together the presidents of leading research-oriented universities in East Asia with the goal of carrying out mutual exchanges among each other.
- Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and APRU World Institute (AWI)
- APRU aims to promote scientific, educational and cultural collaboration among Pacific Rim institutes in order to help its members become effective contributors to the global economy.
- Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network (GMSARN)
- GMSARN is actively involved in the dissemination of information and intellectual assets generated within the GMS to ensure that these knowledge and assets are developed and shared by organizations within the region.
- Integrated Research System on Sustainability Science (IR3S)
- IR3S aims to address global environmental and sustainability issues through education and research.
- Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA)
- SEARCA’s directive is to strengthen institutional capacities in agricultural and rural development in SEA through graduate education, short-term training, research, and knowledge exchange.
- Southeast Asian University Consortium for Graduate Education and Natural Resources
- The consortium aims to provide excellent graduate education and cutting-edge research in agriculture, environment, and natural resources for the benefit of the SEA region.
Europe
- Baltic University Programme (BUP)
- The Baltic University Programme (BUP) is a network of universities and other institutes of higher learning throughout the Baltic Sea region.
- Interuniversity Research Centre for Sustainable Development (CIRPS)
- The mission of CIRPS is to advocate and implement activities related to sustainable economic and social development in partnership with Italian and foreign institutions and international organizations.
- Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Germany
- The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 in order to study global change and its impacts on ecological, economic and social systems. PIK works closely with other international research agencies to find solutions and mitigating measures to the problems resulting from global environmental change.
- Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC)
- The Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) conducts transdisciplinary research for governance of social-ecological systems with a special emphasis on resilience - the ability to deal with change and continue to develop.
