The International Council for Science (ICSU) is an international organization that was founded in 1931 in order to promote international scientific activity in the different branches of science and its application for the benefit of humanity.
The ICSU has a global membership that includes 117 national scientific bodies and 30 international scientific unions.
Among ICSU’s activities include: conducting interdisciplinary research on major issues of relevance in both science and society; facilitating science education and capacity building; supporting scientific conferences, congresses and symposia around the world; and producing newsletters, handbooks, learned journals and proceedings.
