Global Land Project (GLP)

Background

The Global Land Project (GLP), with host office at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, is a research project focused on land systems. It is jointly organized by the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), which is a research program that studies the phenomenon of global change, and the International Human Dimensions Programme (IHDP), which focuses on how humans affect global environmental change. The GLP aims to better understand human and environmental systems, especially how human activities on land are affecting feedbacks to the earth system and the response of the human-environment system to global change.

Member Universities

The GLP community is made up of researchers conducting work on topic areas identified in the GLP science plan. The following are some programs and networks which have received endorsement from the GLP: Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), A Research Network for Studies of Global Desertification (ARIDnet), Terrestrial Ecosystem Response to Atmospheric and Climatic Change (TERACC), Northern Eurasia Earth Science Partnership Initiative (NEESPI), York Institute for Tropical Ecosystem Dynamics (KITE), Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability (CSIS), among others.

Activities

The GLP organizes meetings and conferences, supports research projects related to land systems, and publishes newsletters containing information on recent progress, inputs from members, new projects/activities, etc.
