CIRPS is a consortium of eleven Italian universities with the University La Sapienza of Rome as the leading partner of the consortium. The mission of CIRPS is to advocate and implement activities related to sustainable economic and social development in partnership with Italian and foreign institutions and international organizations. CIRPS is engaged in several interdisciplinary activities being carried out by its member universities in cooperation with local and foreign partners.

The main focus of CIRPS is on scientific and technical cooperation (including training and scientific assistance) in developing countries; however, several activities on sustainable development are also carried out in Italy and within the European Union.
