American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

Background

The American Association for the Advancement of Science is a global, non-profit organization that seeks to "advance science, engineering, and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people". Founded in 1848, AAAS has served as educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association to millions of individuals. As part of its advocacy to raise the understanding of science worldwide, AAAS publishes the journal "Science", as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports.

Activities

To fulfill the AAAS mission of promoting science to the public, it has four primary program areas, namely: Science and Policy, International Activities, Education and Human Resources and Project 2061. AAAS undertakes numerous activities such as publishing Science and other print and online resources, holding scientific conferences and meetings, and assisting scientists to advance their careers.
